We’ve given our advice on what brews pair best with sausage and brisket, so this week Levi is sharing his advice on which Texas beer pairs best with slow-smoked chicken. If you missed the last two posts, click here to find out what beer pairs best with mesquite smoked brisket and here to know what to drink with sausage.
A perfectly smoked chicken deserves nothing less than a Shiner Blonde Light.
At Goode Company, we prepare our chicken with what we call our “Fowl Rub.” It is an ideal combination of seasoning and spices blended especially for chicken and other poultry. Levi recommends pouring a Shiner Blonde Light into a nice, cold beer mug and pairing your mesquite-smoked chicken with this classic Texas light lager.
The pleasant grainy backbone complements the spices in the chicken without overpowering the meat and poultry tends to be naturally lighter than some of the classic barbeque dishes like brisket or ribs. You never want your beverage to overpower the natural flavor profile of your entrée, which is why Levi recommends pairing chicken with a light beer.If you’re not a Shiner Blonde Light fan, tell us in the comments below what your go-to beer is when you order half of a bird.
